Creekside Community Centre shows Olympic Spirit

The Creekside Community Centre was the site of a “rekindling” of the Olympic Spirit on Sunday, February 9 as pin traders and volunteers alike descended to relive the glory of four years ago.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police colour guard escorted Vancouver 2010 Volunteers, pin traders and the public around the plaza at 12 Noon to officially open the celebration festivities.

And if pin trading wasn’t enough, Olympic Champion and Vancouver 2010 gold medal winning athlete in skicross Ashleigh McIvor was also in attendance to greet fans and sign autographs.

Other activities included a West Coast Lumberjack Show; a meet and greet with the Vancouver 2010 Blue Jacket Volunteers; an extreme snowboarding simulator; toddler rink, and toddler and children’s hockey by Vancouver Sportball; caricatures, button making, face painting and photo station; and live entertainment, Olympic memorabilia, pin trading (naturalement), and door prizes; and “Canada House” and “Russia House” cultural-themed crafts, cookie decorating, maple syrup pops, and flag making

All in all … a wonderful day basking in the warm afterglow of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games … and celebrating the start of Sochi 2014!
